CPUT in Vibrant Showcase of Identity, Innovation and Social Cohesion
Students, staff, creatives and community partners gathered for an Africa Month event highlighting unity, cultural expression and women reshaping the African narrative.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships Directorate, in collaboration with RLabs, recently hosted a vibrant and impactful Africa Month Celebration.
This event brought together students, staff, community members, creatives, and innovators for a shared celebration of African identity, collaboration, and possibility.

It was a gathering rooted in diversity, unity, and belonging. The celebration served as a platform for cultural expression, dialogue, and social innovation, reflecting the collective spirit and dynamism of the African continent.
Brightness Mangolothi, Director: Centre for Diversity, Inclusion Social Cohesion at CPUT, said the event last Wednesday was a continuation of the Africa Month celebrations.
“We had the privilege of having the co-founder and Director of RLabs South Africa, Rene Parker, as the keynote speaker and Prof Marshall Sheldon (Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Technology Innovation and Partnerships) doing the opening address.
“As I listened to both of them, I marvelled and wondered about the role of women in changing the African narrative. They are among the many who are shifting the needle, yet we rarely hear such good stories,” reflected Mangolothi afterwards.
She thanked Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships Director (SIIP) Director Dr Divinia Jithoo Pillay for introducing her to this community and for the opportunity to co-facilitate the celebration.
