Higher Education Minister Manamela Welcomes Newly-Appointed Deputy, Yusuf Cassim
The Minister also thanks outgoing Deputy Minister Dr Mimmy Gondwe for her service to the portfolio
The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, welcomes the appointment of Yusuf Cassim as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training and congratulates him on assuming this important responsibility.
The Minister looks forward to working with Deputy Minister Cassim in advancing the priorities of the Post-School Education and Training system, including the stabilisation of NSFAS, improved governance across entities, skills development, SETA reform, TVET and CET college strengthening, and expanded access and success for students.
The Minister also thanks outgoing Deputy Minister Dr Mimmy Gondwe for her service to the portfolio and for her contribution to student support, partnerships, skills development and sector outreach during her tenure.
The Ministry remains focused on building a stable, responsive and future-oriented post-school education and training system that serves students, workers, institutions and the country.
Cassim was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his recent cabinet reshuffle triggered by the demotion of former DA leader and Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen in the GNU at the behest of current party head honcho Geordin Hill-Lewis.
Steenhuisen is now Deputy Trade and Industry Minister under Minister Parks Tau.
Ramaphosa also brought back to the cabinet, Dinah Pule as Minister of Social Development replacing Sisisi Tolashe who was axed a month ago.
Pule left under a cloud when she was Communications Minister under former President Jacob Zuma’s tenure, following allegations of corruption involving her boyfriend.
