OMODA & JAECOO Expands J5 Range with New Hybrid SHS Model

The hybrid-powered J5 SHS joins OMODA & JAECOO South Africa’s growing electrified range, offering 165 kW of combined power, impressive fuel efficiency and a claimed range of up to 980 km.

OMODA & JAECOO South Africa has launched the J5 SHS hybrid, adding an electrified option alongside the existing petrol-powered model and the recently introduced fully electric J5 BEV.

The OMODA & JAECOO J5 SHS expands the J5 range in South Africa, joining the existing petrol and fully electric variants.

The J5 SHS harbours a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 165 kW of power and 295 Nm of torque. The hybrid system is supported by a 1.83 kWh battery that enables electric assistance during low-speed driving and stop-start traffic conditions.

According to OMODA & JAECOO, the J5 SHS delivers a fuel consumption figure of 5.3 litres per 100 km, while its 51-litre fuel tank provides a theoretical driving range of up to 980 km on a single tank. Power is transferred to the front wheels through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), designed to optimise efficiency and performance.

The family-oriented crossover provides 410 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,214 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

The crossover offers 410 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to 1,214 litres when the rear 60/40 split-folding seats are folded down. Other convenience features include a power-operated tailgate, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic moonroof, automatic LED headlights and multi-colour ambient interior lighting.

Inside, the J5 SHS offers black leather upholstery, ambient lighting and a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Inside the cabin, occupants benefit from black leather upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a leather multifunction steering wheel and an eight-inch digital driver display.

Technology and connectivity

OMODA & JAECOO says the J5 SHS can achieve fuel consumption of 5.3L/100km and a theoretical driving range of up to 980km.

The J5 SHS features a 13.2-inch central touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and voice-command functionality. Drivers also get 50W wireless smartphone charging and a six-speaker audio system. Rear parking sensors and a camera are included to assist with manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Strong safety credentials

Safety features include six airbags and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Emergency Braking.

The J5 SHS comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Brake Assist, traction control and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages.
