Public Protector SA, Dirco in partnership with UKZN, Re-launch African Ombudsman Research Centre
The Public Protector South Africa, in its capacity as Chairperson of the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC), in partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, relaunch the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC).
The relaunch will be held under the theme: “Using Ombudsman Powers to Strengthen Governance and Advance Sustainable Development Goals in Africa” - on Monday 23 March at KwaZulu-Natal University Campus.
This high-level event will bring together Ombudsmen, Mediators, and Public Protectors from across the continent to engage on the evolving role of Ombudsman institutions in promoting accountability, strengthening democratic governance, and advancing human rights.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Andries Nel, is expected to deliver a keynote address.
The AORC serves as the research and training arm of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association, providing skills, research, and knowledge-sharing platforms to support the work of Ombudsman institutions across the continent.
