President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged that “no stone will be left unturned” in the investigation into the spate of killings of women in and around Kempton Park, Gauteng. His remarks follow the discovery of a seventh body in the area, intensifying fears of a serial killer at large.
Police confirmed that two additional bodies were recently found - one in KwaThema, Springs, and another near Thembisa Mall in Clayville - bringing the total number of victims linked to the Kempton Park killings to seven.
Those feared to be among the victims include runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who went missing but was found allegedly beaten, killed, and dumped.
The identities of several victims remain unknown, and Gauteng police say they are working around the clock to establish the facts and track down those responsible. Rumors of a serial killer have spread rapidly, with women in the affected communities voicing deep concern for their safety.
In his statement, Ramaphosa extended condolences to the families and communities affected. “These incidents are causing fear and uncertainty in our communities, and especially among women,” he said. “Our law enforcement agencies are working urgently to establish the facts, keep communities safe, and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice.”
The President confirmed he had spoken to the Minister of Police and the Acting National Police Commissioner, directing that the cases be prioritised. He emphasised that police are working in partnership with citizens and appealed for information that could aid the investigation.
“As a nation, we must stand up for the rights, safety and dignity of women and girls,” Ramaphosa said.
