UJ students make their mark at inaugural RMB Young Talent Expo
Students gained practical insights into industry trends, workplace expectations and the skills required to thrive in a competitive employment environment.
Students from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) recently participated in the inaugural RMB Young Talent Expo, an initiative hosted by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) that connected high-potential students with industry professionals and emerging career opportunities in the financial services sector.
Facilitated through UJ’s PsyCaD Career Services, the expo provided a valuable platform for students to engage directly with industry experts, gain first-hand insight into the evolving financial services landscape, and explore potential career pathways. The inaugural event underscored the importance of partnerships between higher education institutions and industry in preparing graduates for the future world of work.
The expo featured keynote presentations and panel discussions led by senior professionals from RMB’s Young Talent, Global Markets, Data Analytics, Information Management and Technology divisions.
Students gained practical insights into industry trends, workplace expectations and the skills required to thrive in a competitive employment environment. They also had the opportunity to network with recruiters and professionals, broadening their understanding of career opportunities within the sector.
Among those who attended was final-year BCom Information Systems student Simamkele Noludwe, who described the experience as both insightful and inspiring.
“The RMB Young Talent Expo gave me a clearer understanding of the opportunities available within the financial services industry. Hearing directly from industry leaders was both inspiring and informative,” said Noludwe.
RMB also commended the calibre of UJ students who attended the event. Vanessa Mhlanga, RMB Young Talent Specialist, praised the students’ engagement throughout the programme.
“The calibre of engagement demonstrated by UJ students was exceptional. Their curiosity, professionalism and willingness to learn reflected the quality of talent being developed at the University of Johannesburg,” she said.
For PsyCaD Career Services, the expo formed part of its ongoing commitment to equipping students with meaningful industry exposure and strengthening their employability.
Bongani Stuurman, a representative from UJ’s PsyCaD Career Services, said initiatives such as the RMB Young Talent Expo play an important role in bridging the gap between higher education and industry.
“At PsyCaD Career Services, we are committed to creating opportunities that connect students with industry and prepare them for successful careers. The RMB Young Talent Expo provided our students with meaningful exposure to industry leaders and valuable insights into the future of work,” said Stuurman.
The participation of UJ students in the inaugural RMB Young Talent Expo reflects the University’s continued commitment to preparing graduates who are industry-ready, globally competitive and equipped with the knowledge, networks and confidence to succeed in their chosen careers.
